Returning Instructor Semester Start Checklist

Getting Started: Confirming your courses

o   Verify your course has been created.
o   Confirm your course name
o   Choose and set your course start and end dates.
By default, the start date is 30 days before the first day of class and the end date is 7 days after the end. You can change these dates to whatever you want them to be. These dates are when the course is visible to students.
o   Confirm that your course is active or inactive


o   Enroll other instructors, TA’s, and anyone else who will need access to your course.
You do not need to enroll students; they will be enrolled automatically.

Copy Content from Previous Semester

o   Use the Import/Export/Copy components tool to bring the content into your course.
o   Replace any files that no longer exist with an updated file
o   Add Student Resources Module (coming soon!)

If there is something you would like to put in D2L that you cannot find a way to put into your course contact Teresa Potter our Educational Technology Specialist at


o Edit your Manage Grades setup to reflect the current course

Assessment Tools


o   Update start dates and end dates for assignments
Make sure dropboxes are correctly associated with grade items after grades update (#5 in this help guide)


o   Update quiz start and end dates (learn how to edit quizzes, or learn more about quiz dates and restrictions)
o  Make sure quizzes are correctly associated with grade items after grades update (Learn more about automatically sending grades to the grades tool)


o  Update discussion start and end dates and any lock dates (Learn more about editing a discussion forum or topic)
o   Make sure discussions are correctly associated with grade items after grades update

Once students are enrolled

o   Check your enrollment in D2L matches the enrollment in MyUrsuline.
o   Create groups if needed
o   Send welcome email to students with instructions on how to get started in D2L.

Other helpful resources

o   Visit the Atomic Learning library to look for applicable resources to add to your course. When prompted to do so, enter your Ursuline username and password to log in to Atomic Learning
